Scammers have learned how to hijack Telegram accounts without a password or SMS codes. The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs warned about a malicious program called "Windows Telemetry Update" that steals messenger session data directly from the user's computer, allowing access to the account. This warning was issued by the Department for Organizing the Fight Against Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Once launched on a computer, the malicious software steals Telegram for Windows session data. This allows attackers to gain access to the account without entering a password or confirmation codes.

Such a file can get onto a device if the user downloads programs from unverified sources.

To protect their account, experts recommend installing programs only from official and verified resources, not opening suspicious links and attachments in emails and messengers, regularly updating the operating system and applications, and using antivirus software.

In addition, users are advised to periodically check the list of active sessions in Telegram and disconnect any unknown devices.
