Car blogger and ex-AvtoVAZ engineer KhaDm visited the central UAZ dealership in Ulyanovsk. Instead of the full UAZ model range that was previously presented, he found only Korean KGM vehicles and domestic Sollers pickups on the lot. Only one "Patriot" from UAZ's production remained in the showroom.
When asked where the other cars were, the manager explained: the demand for UAZ vehicles is currently very high, almost all production goes to the needs of the army, so there is no point in even displaying them in the showroom. If desired, a car can be ordered and assembled, but it can no longer be viewed at the dealership.
Earlier, KhaDm reported that the UAZ plant has been partially idle since May 2026 due to the transition to military production. According to his data, three types of vehicles are currently being assembled on the conveyor – two military and one civilian ("Patriot"), but production volumes have fallen by 2.5 times compared to pre-crisis levels. Sales of civilian UAZ vehicles in the first half of 2026 fell by almost half. Sollers continues to develop joint projects with Korean KGM, which allows dealers to compensate for the shortage of domestic cars. According to the blogger, the current situation is a reflection of the general trend of reorienting industry to defense needs, and it is likely to continue in the coming years.
