The fuel situation has forced the Russian Ministry of Agriculture to accelerate plans for the transition of agriculture to gas-powered machinery. The Ministry expects to prepare a program for the production of such machines and simultaneously create the necessary infrastructure together with Gazprom in the coming months, said the head of the Ministry, Oksana Lut.
According to her, the fuel situation is forcing agricultural machinery manufacturers to revise their plans. Moreover, it is no longer just about the production of the machines themselves: without a network of gas stations and other infrastructure, a mass transition to gas is impossible.
Given the current fuel situation, we need to pay attention to gas-powered machinery. We have been working on it for the last three or four years, probably.
The Ministry of Agriculture expects to agree on a plan with Gazprom within a few months. It should determine which gas-powered units will be produced for the agricultural sector and where the necessary infrastructure will appear.
The cooperation between the Ministry and the gas company in this area has been ongoing for several years. Back in 2023, the parties signed an agreement on the development of gas-powered machinery, including that intended for the transportation of agricultural products.
