Before using the "Yolka" drone interceptor, the military first detects the aerial target's video signal. This is necessary to determine its altitude and flight direction, explained platoon commander with the call sign Moryak.
As soon as the UAV enters our operational zone, we engage it using the "Yolka" anti-aircraft drone.
Driver-mechanic Valery Ivanov added that before using the interceptor, a special launch key must be installed and the device calibrated on a flat surface for 10–12 seconds.
We aim at the target. When "Yolka" locks onto the drone, it emits an audible signal. After that, we first lightly press the trigger to start the system, and then press it all the way down.
"Yolka" defeats drones by ramming. The interceptor's mass is 1.3 kg, with a stated capture and engagement range of up to 3 km. There were rumors online that one interceptor costs up to 800 thousand rubles, but the actual price is significantly lower.
The complex operates completely autonomously; the crew only needs to launch "Yolka" towards the drone, and the interceptor at high speed crashes into the UAV, bringing it down to the ground.
