The fighter aviation regiment at Chkalovsk airfield in the Kaliningrad region has completed the transition to the latest Su-35S and Su-30SM2. The footage was shown by the head of the region, Alexey Besprozvannykh.
Until recently, the core of the unit consisted of Soviet Su-27s. The regiment received the first four two-seat Su-30SM2s at the end of 2023, according to the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST). Mass rearmament with new aircraft began last year.
The Su-35S is considered the most advanced serial Russian fighter until the appearance of the Su-57.
The aircraft is equipped with the "Irbis-E" radar station, capable of detecting air targets at a range of up to 400 km, AL-41F1S engines with thrust vectoring, and can reach speeds of up to 2500 km/h.
The Su-30SM2 received the same engines and a significant part of the equipment from the Su-35S, which significantly increased the unification of equipment and simplified fleet maintenance.
