United Engine Corporation has increased the durability of the French-Russian SaM146 engines to at least 3000 flight cycles, up from the basic 1000. This was reported by aviation blogger SkyExpert.
Previously, due to the design features of the French Snecma combustion chamber, micro-defects appeared after 1000–1500 cycles. Now, this threshold has been officially moved at least 2 times higher.
According to information as of May 2026, the resource of the SaM146 engine for SSJ-100 aircraft has already been extended to 3000 flight cycles, but in the future, it may be increased even further.
The industry specialist added that ODK, without the participation of the French side, has established overhaul procedures for the SaM146. In 2025, 33 SaM146 engines were returned to service, and more than 150 since 2022.
By the end of 2029, SaM146 engines on the first versions of the SSJ-100 will still begin to be replaced with PD-8s. For now, this concerns a batch of 50 airliners.
