The Uralvagonzavod concern is developing an all-aspect protection complex for T-80 family tanks, which should increase their resistance to modern drones. The start of these works was announced by enterprise representatives in honor of the 50th anniversary of the T-80's adoption into service.

The concern noted that modern tanks traditionally have the most powerful protection for the frontal part of the hull and turret. However, the development of unmanned aerial vehicles required a revision of approaches to armored vehicle protection. Therefore, solutions are currently being developed that can protect the crew and key components of the vehicle from strikes from almost any direction.

The prospective complex will include elements of reactive armor, various mechanical barriers, as well as jamming systems designed to disrupt the operation of unmanned aerial vehicle control channels. This set of tools should increase the survivability of tanks in conditions of widespread use of FPV drones and other UAVs on the battlefield.

The T-80 tank remains one of the most famous machines of the Soviet and Russian tank building school. Over decades of operation, it has been repeatedly modernized, receiving new fire control systems, protection means, and improved characteristics.

The development of a counter-drone complex has become one of the key areas of armored vehicle modernization, as drones have become one of the main threats to tanks in modern armed conflicts.
