United Engine Corporation (ODK, part of Rostec) has officially revealed the characteristics of the new 177S engine for tactical aviation. ODK claims that the power unit surpasses many Russian and foreign counterparts in terms of parameters.

In particular, the corporation confirmed that the thrust of the 177S in afterburner mode reaches 14.5 tons.

The declared engine life is 6000 hours. This figure is three times greater than that of previous generation power units.

Fuel economy is 7% across all modes. A figure that translates into hundreds of kilometers of additional range, more complex piloting, and significantly lower operating costs.

Roman Gusarov, editor-in-chief of Avia.ru, told "Pervy Tekhnichesky" that the 177S could be useful in creating a prototype of a new domestic supersonic airliner. For this, it will be necessary to remove the hydromechanical control system and leave only the electronic one.

The A.M. Lyulka Design Bureau (part of ODK-UMPO of the United Engine Corporation) is creating the 177S engine based on new principles, noted leading designer Georgy Gogaev.
