Space Without Foreign Parts: Roscosmos Changes Rules for Purchasing Earth Imagery

Starting June 28, the state will begin checking whose technologies private satellites operate on before purchasing Earth imagery from them. Roscosmos will assess the spacecraft's dependence on foreign components and the security of the data obtained.

This refers to Earth remote sensing data – images needed by government agencies, municipalities, and subordinate institutions. The check will consider the extent to which Russian components are used in the satellite and how the information resource is protected.

Data from spacecraft that have not passed the assessment can still be purchased – but only if the necessary information cannot be obtained from verified satellites.

At the same time, the document clarifies the rules for using state spacecraft. Now, when purchasing images, it will be important not only what is visible from space, but also what the satellite itself is made of.
