Modern navigation no longer suffices with meter-level accuracy – new tasks require satellites with decimeter resolution. This was stated by Roscosmos head Dmitry Bakanov at the SPIEF.
According to him, this is especially relevant for unmanned aerial vehicles and drones. Even without considering military scenarios, civilian services increasingly require accuracy at the level of tens of centimeters.
Meter-level accuracy is no longer ideal – decimeter-level is needed. We are not even talking about any military conditions, but tens of centimeters are relevant for civilian needs as well.
Earlier, Oleg Skufinsky, head of Rosreestr, said that Roscosmos should provide the agency with high-resolution space cartographic data by 2032. For such tasks, according to him, a resolution of about 20 cm is necessary.
Such accuracy can be in demand not only in cartography, but also in managing unmanned transport, infrastructure monitoring, agriculture, construction, and other areas where detailed data from orbit are important.
