Which parts are most often stolen from cars in 2026: batteries and even gearboxes are at risk

Cases of car parts theft continue to be recorded in Russia. According to insurers, 54% of such cases involved passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, and another 46% involved heavy vehicles.

Attackers try to remove parts from KAMAZ trucks, among others. According to Soglasie statistics, batteries and spare wheels were most often stolen from cars – they accounted for significantly more than half of all recorded thefts. Moldings, headlight "eyelashes" and taillights were removed less frequently, but regularly – about a quarter of the incidents.

However, among trucks, Sitrak models suffered most often. They accounted for approximately 33% of cases in their category, mainly the C7H heavy truck.

Renaissance Insurance added that attackers usually choose parts that can be quickly removed: wipers, mirrors, fog lights, wheels, and equipment from the interior.

Sometimes unusual cases also occur – for example, the removal of a gearbox, said Irina Mishurova, a representative of MAKS company.

Among foreign passenger cars, Kia was at risk: the brand accounted for about 29% of all recorded parts thefts, with Rio and Sorento most often mentioned. Zeekr often has large-radius wheels removed, and Haval M6 has headlights removed.

Renaissance Insurance named Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, and Rostov-on-Don as the most dangerous cities for motorists, while Soglasie put Rostov-on-Don first and also noted the Stavropol Krai.

In case of parts theft, drivers are advised to call the police, not move the car, photograph and video everything; compensation from the insurance company can only be obtained with CASCO insurance.
