The production of Project 11661E Gepard warships may begin in Vietnam as part of localization. This was announced by Dmitry Shugaev, Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS).
According to him, the Vietnamese side has shown interest in localizing the frigates. Currently, the country's Navy has four such ships in service.
I think we can count on the continuation of this story, including with the localization of production.
It should be noted that Vietnam bought four Russian Project 11661E Gepard-3.9 frigates in two separate batches — in May 2006 and October 2012. The total cost was about $1.05 billion, according to the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST).
All four ships were built at the A. M. Gorky Zelenodolsk Plant in Tatarstan, and today they form the basis of the Vietnamese Navy's surface forces.
The United Shipbuilding Corporation is ready to develop cooperation with foreign partners, said its head Andrey Puchkov.
