The "Step-by-Step" mode has appeared in "Yandex Maps" and "Navigator" for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is needed for situations where GPS is unstable. For example, in tunnels, at complex interchanges, or among dense high-rise buildings.
Previously, the "Step-by-Step" mode was only available in Yandex mobile applications. Now the update has been transferred to car screens.
The essence of the mode is that navigation does not constantly try to rebuild the route due to loss of satellite signal. Instead, the driver receives sequential instructions along the route.
The screen shows the next maneuver, the distance to it, and a clear landmark — for example, the street name. After completing one stage, the driver manually flips the screen and sees the next hint.
The problem of poor GPS in tunnels and among high-rises is familiar to users of other services as well. 2GIS, for example, has a mode for weak GPS, where the route can be broken down into individual steps, and the application will guide the driver step-by-step — with hints on where to turn and what maneuver to perform next.
