To save Crimean grapes from pests: the "Zubrus" robot for agricultural work developed at KIPU

Autonomous platform performs tasks without navigation systems

Scientists at the Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University (KIPU) have developed a prototype of a universal robotic system "Zubrus" for agricultural work. The autonomous platform is equipped with artificial intelligence, said Candidate of Technical Sciences Ervin Umerov.

According to him, the main advantages of "Zubrus" are autonomy and mobility.

The platform can operate in the absence of navigation systems.

The development is intended for spraying vineyards against pests, mowing grass, and delivering construction equipment, Umerov added.

Preliminary characteristics of "Zubrus":

  • Height — 1 m
  • Width — 1.5 m
  • Length — 2 m
  • Engine — electric
  • Control type — by programmable task with a terrain map

The KIPU representative stated that the platform will be in demand among agricultural producers. Currently, Crimea needs at least 80 such robots, he noted.

The university cooperates with two local enterprises. Under the signed agreement, the development and testing of "Zubrus" will take place at KIPU, and the production of the finished platform will be handled by manufacturing partners. The first robot will appear by the end of 2027.
