The successful certification of PD-8 engines has opened up the possibility for the revival of the Il-212 light transport aircraft program. This was reported by the publication "Aviatsiya Rossii".
This project is based on the Il-112V transport aircraft with new avionics and fuselage, as well as onboard equipment.
An additional technical window is opening for resuming work on the Il-112/212 with a turbofan power plant, although here the decision will depend on a comprehensive assessment of the platform and its market and operational feasibility.
Presumably, the PD-8 jet engines on the Il-212 will be installed above the wing, similar to the An-72, to ensure the operation of the new aircraft from unprepared strips and unpaved airfields.
Recall that the Il-112V was created as a replacement for the An-26, but the aircraft turned out to be about 2.5 tons heavier than calculated, and the TV7-117ST engines could not cope with the load.
