Russian military transport aviation received new heavy Il-76MD-90A aircraft, which completely re-equipped two regiments. This was announced by the Commander of Military Transport Aviation, Lieutenant General Vladimir Benediktov.
According to him, deliveries were made within the framework of the 2025 state defense order, which was fully completed.
At the same time, the process of modernizing equipment previously put into service is underway. The most promising machines from the Il-76MD are being upgraded to the Il-76MD-M. We are solving this task together with industrial enterprises.
The Il-76MD-90A is considered an improved version of the Soviet Il-76. The aircraft received new PS-90A-76 engines, modern avionics, a reinforced wing, and increased payload capacity.
The specific characteristics of the Il-76MD-M version are not yet known, but it is logical to assume that it involves extending the service life and updating onboard systems.
Earlier it became known that by the end of 2027, the Ulyanovsk enterprise "Aviastar" expects to build 12 Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft per year, and then increase the pace to 18 machines.
