"Admiral Nakhimov" Returns: Nuclear Giant Enters Final Trials

The heavy missile cruiser of Project 1144.2M "Orlan" undergoes final checks before returning to the fleet's combat strength

The heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" has begun the final stage of trials after repairs and deep modernization. The ship is preparing to return to the combat strength of the Northern Fleet, where it will become one of the most powerful surface ships of the Russian Navy.

The modernized Project 1144.2M "Orlan" ship will be able to carry up to 80 missiles for various purposes, including "Kalibr", "Onyx" and hypersonic "Zircon". In addition, the ship received a powerful air defense system with several levels of protection and modern electronic warfare equipment.

The length of the cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" reaches approximately 252 meters, and its full displacement is over 26 thousand tons. Thanks to the use of a nuclear power plant, this Russian ship can stay at sea for a long time without the need for refueling and is capable of performing tasks over significant distances.

The start of the final trial program was announced on Northern Fleet Day, which is celebrated on June 1. At the same time, the fleet summarized its work for the first months of 2026 and reported on the completion of tasks in the Arctic and North Atlantic.

Commander of the Northern Fleet Admiral Konstantin Kabantsov noted that the fleet's forces continue to ensure security in the area of responsibility and participate in strategic deterrence tasks. According to him, the actions of coastal troops involved in army groups received high praise.
