The Voronezh Aircraft Plant (VASO) continues to divest non-core assets amidst uncertainty surrounding the future production of the Il-96. This time, the enterprise put up for sale the Lenin Palace of Culture and a parking lot next to the main production site. The total starting cost of the lots amounted to 173 million rubles.
The Voronezh Aircraft Plant is the only site in Russia for the serial production of the Il-96-400M.
Aviation expert Oleg Panteleev explained that the Il-96-400M was initially uninteresting to airlines that chose Boeing and Airbus. In fact, this situation makes the airliner illiquid in the domestic market.
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Anton Alikhanov, noted that Russia had already begun developing a new long-haul aircraft, but did not mention the Il-96.
Earlier, "Perviy Tekhnicheskiy" conducted a direct comparison of the Il-96-400M with the global benchmark for long-haul efficiency – the Boeing 777-300ER.
