The medium-range missile system "Oreshnik" demonstrates capabilities for striking deeply buried industrial infrastructure. This was stated by military expert Alexander Stepanov of the Institute of Law and National Security of RANEPA, analyzing the physical principles of the complex's operation.
The specialist noted that the kinetic potential of "Oreshnik" allows it to overcome multi-layered protective structures characteristic of Soviet engineering heritage objects – mines, bunkers, underground storage facilities.
It is necessary to note the role of "Oreshnik" given the real capabilities of its kinetic potential to destroy underground industrial infrastructure. This is indeed what is capable of uncovering these numerous objects of Soviet engineering thought heritage
Stepanov added that from a technical point of view, hypersonic speed and flight trajectory create conditions under which traditional interception systems, including Patriot-type complexes, face limitations in reaction time and targeting accuracy. The physical parameters of the missile go beyond the calculated operating modes of many existing air defense systems.
Combat testing, according to the expert, allows for collecting data to refine ballistic models and adjust tactical and technical requirements for future developments.
