In the village of Sokolskoye, Nizhny Novgorod region, the lead torpedo recovery boat "TL-2202" of Project 1388NZTM was launched. The vessel was built by specialists of "Sokolskaya Shipyard" under the order of the Russian Ministry of Defence.
The boat will search for, lift aboard, and deliver training torpedoes to the base after firing exercises. This work allows expensive training ammunition to be returned to service and saves fleet resources. After a shot, the crew locates the torpedo in the water, secures it, and tows it to the base or transfers it to the firing ship.
The launching ceremony was conducted by the Head of the Shipbuilding Department of the Main Command of the Navy, Rear Admiral Ilyas Shigapov. Immediately after him, the shipyard began the final installation of equipment and systems.
Project 1388NZTM was developed by the Nizhny Novgorod Design Bureau "Vympel". The modernized version received improved lifting mechanisms and modern navigation equipment. After factory sea trials and state tests, the torpedo recovery boat "TL-2202" will join the Northern Fleet.
