Terminator Tractor: Russian Engineer Creates All-in-One Autonomous Field Drone

Smart tracked machine can operate without human intervention

A Russian inventor has patented an unmanned multifunctional agricultural platform — essentially, a smart tractor that operates without a driver. The development is designed for comprehensive cultivation of agricultural crops and can replace conventional machinery in the fields.

The device was built on a self-propelled tracked chassis, on which a body and a platform were installed. Two telescopic supports are attached to the edges of the platform in the center, and a crossbar is installed perpendicularly to the movement on them — any mounted equipment is suspended from it. This allows the platform to be adapted for various types of work: plowing, sowing, spraying, harvesting.

The heart of the system is an onboard computer with a main controller. For navigation, a GNSS RTK module (satellite system with centimeter accuracy), precise positioning antennas, a technical vision module, and a surveillance camera are used. A key innovation is the built-in machine vision module with artificial intelligence. It analyzes the surrounding environment in real time, recognizes obstacles, and corrects the trajectory of movement without human intervention. For additional safety, contact sensors — from 1 to 1000 pieces — are installed on the platform.

The power unit includes an internal combustion engine, an oil pump, and a hydraulic system that drives the mounted equipment.

The developer has achieved automation of agricultural crop processing and expanded the capabilities of conventional tractors. The unmanned platform can operate around the clock, tirelessly and with high accuracy — this is especially relevant for large agricultural enterprises. The patent has already been obtained.
