The first Russian BIOS was removed from the register of domestic software

One of the most well-known Russian BIOS systems has been excluded from the register of domestic software. This refers to the basic input-output system developed by the Ricore Group of Companies. The company introduced it back in 2018 as the first domestic development of its kind.

As CNews found out, the entry was deleted by order of the Russian Ministry of Digital Development dated May 12, 2026. The reason is that the register contained outdated information about the product.

The ministry explained that they had sent a request to the copyright holder to update the information, but received no response. After that, the system was excluded according to the current rules for maintaining the register of domestic software.

This refers to BIOS – one of the key levels of computer software. It is the BIOS that starts first when the device is turned on and is responsible for basic checking and launching of hardware even before the operating system loads.

Ricore introduced its BIOS in 2018, and in 2023, it included it in the register of Russian software. The development was declared as fully compatible with the UEFI specification and intended for laptops, regular PCs, all-in-ones, industrial computers, thin clients, and servers on x86 architecture from AMD and Intel.

The company itself explained that this BIOS is no longer relevant for them. Ricore said that servers based on AMD have been removed from their product line, and now the focus is on systems with Intel Xeon Gen4 and Gen5.

In addition, software development was spun off into a separate legal entity – Ricore AI. This structure will subsequently submit new applications to the Ministry of Digital Development. The company does not intend to renew the old entry in the register.

According to a CNews source, there are currently more than three dozen Russian BIOS systems in the register. However, some solutions are based on foreign code. Only a few companies in Russia created their own BIOS source code – among them OpenYard, Fplus, and Rostelecom, the source emphasized.
