Russia froze the "Leader" destroyer: the fleet was left without a ship of the future

The lead ship of Project 23560 was estimated at 100 billion rubles

The Russian project of the nuclear destroyer "Leader", which in the mid-2010s was called the future of the ocean fleet, actually remained at the sketch stage. This was announced by military analyst Sergey Vinokurov.

He recalled that the ship was supposed to replace several classes of large combat units of the Navy, but construction never began.

Funding for the project was stopped back in 2016, after which the topic disappeared from the public agenda of Russian shipbuilding.

Since then, even the word "destroyer" at Russian shipyards is pronounced only in relation to the plans of foreign fleets. We ourselves, it seems, have stopped dreaming of such ships.

Recall that Project 23560 "Leader" involved the creation of a large nuclear ship for the far sea zone with a powerful air defense system, cruise missiles, and modern anti-submarine warfare capabilities. The cost of the lead ship was estimated at 100 billion rubles.

The head of the Maritime Board, Nikolai Patrushev, noted that the presence of vessels with a significant service life in the Russian Navy negatively affects the combat capabilities of the fleet.
