The presence of ships with a significant service life in the Russian Navy negatively affects the fleet's combat capabilities. This was stated by the head of the Maritime Board, Nikolai Patrushev.

According to him, another negative factor is the weak introduction of innovations in warships.

A number of factors are noted that negatively affect the combat capabilities of the fleet. First of all, the presence in its composition of ships and vessels with a significant service life, a low level of introduction of innovative technologies in the creation of ships and their weapons.

The head of the Marine Board added that it is necessary to increase the production capacity of shipbuilding enterprises, modernize and technically re-equip them.

Former commander of the Pacific Fleet, Sergei Avakyants, stated that the lack of a full-fledged naval aviation has become a weak spot in the Navy. The admiral urged to rely on Soviet experience in its development.

Nevertheless, the Central Design Bureau of Marine Technology "Rubin" has already begun design work on creating new generation ships for the underwater component of the fleet.
