The construction of a new press line at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, designed for the production of body parts for the new Sollers S9 SUV, is nearing completion. As reported to "Izvestia" by the UAZ press service, the line will provide stamping for both prospective Sollers models and the plant's own model range. Five presses are already undergoing testing, and the foundation for a sixth press with a force of 2500 tons is being prepared in the frame building.
Serial production of the Sollers S9 is scheduled to begin in August-September 2026. The SUV will be built using a full cycle on a frame structure, which it will share with the Sollers ST9 pickup. From the latter, the new model will inherit a coil-spring rear suspension and two classic hydromechanical automatic transmissions from different manufacturers – a solution that should provide a balance between reliability and comfort. Under the hood, a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine with all-wheel drive is expected, featuring several operating modes for different road conditions.
Thus, UAZ, in cooperation with Sollers, is laying down a unified platform. The new press shop with a force of up to 2500 tons is capable of stamping large body panels from high-strength steel, and unified tooling for the S9 and UAZ models will allow for rapid production scaling and cost reduction due to economies of scale. The final chord is the installation of a 50-ton bridge crane in the second half of the year for moving stamping tooling.
