Mobile internet and SMS in Moscow have been disabled since early morning on May 9. Disruptions are being reported across the capital and beyond. Even whitelisted sites are inaccessible. Earlier, on May 7, the Ministry of Digital Development confirmed that the main restrictions would occur specifically on Victory Day.
Problems with communication are reported not only in Moscow. Residents of St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, and Rostov-on-Don also complain about the lack of mobile internet. According to local media, in Yekaterinburg, in particular, mobile internet disappeared around 8:40 AM. Organizers had warned about possible restrictions.
Such communication restrictions are a necessary measure to ensure security at large-scale events. Similar local restrictions reduce the accuracy of drone targeting and prevent possible sabotage using radio-controlled devices.
Home internet and Wi-Fi are operating normally, allowing access to alternative communication channels.
