Yandex Disk disables synchronization on PCs without a subscription: the program will become paid from June 3

Yandex has warned users that from June 3, the desktop application of Disk will stop synchronizing files without a paid Yandex 360 subscription.

As confirmed by iXBT.com in the company's press service, if there is no payment, cloud functions, including uploading and downloading data, will be disabled in the program. Access to files already downloaded to the computer will remain, but downloading new ones without a subscription will become impossible. Previously, the desktop client worked for free, and a fee was charged only for additional storage space.

The new "For Myself" plan includes 200 GB of disk space, unlimited automatic photo and video uploads from a smartphone, and working with files on a PC. The first three months will cost 59 rubles per month, then 319 rubles. Alternatives remain the browser interface and mobile application, where synchronization functionality will be preserved without a mandatory subscription.

Yandex explained the decision by the fact that the desktop application is increasingly used for working with heavy files, and such scenarios require significant server resources.
