Russian designers may be developing weapons based on new physical principles (for example, laser weapons). This is how Igor Korotchenko, director of the Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade (TSAMTO), commented on the words of Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev that Russia possesses promising weapons, which are not usually discussed publicly.
In his opinion, these are promising projects that enterprises of the Russian defense-industrial complex (OPK) are working on.
First, it can be assumed that we are talking about developments in the field of creating weapon systems based on new physical principles. Of course, these are strategic-class weapons.
Medvedev, speaking about new weapon samples, probably announced the completion of tests or the beginning of serial production, Korotchenko suggested. This is especially relevant given the "destruction of the former world order" by Western countries. And to deter potential adversaries, Russia must replenish its arsenal, the expert concluded.
On April 30, Medvedev spoke at the "Znanie. Pervye" marathon. He stated that Russia, in addition to the "Oreshnik" ballistic missiles and "Poseidon" underwater drones, also has other weapon samples. However, the politician did not disclose details.
