The Russian Ministry of Health has amended the list of objects for transplantation. Starting September 1, 2026, it will include the spinal cord, nerves, bones, and their fragments. This follows from the relevant order of the department.
At the same time, bones of the skull vault and the lower jaw will be excluded from the list.
Transplantology is actively developing in Russia, thanks in part to the Shumakov National Medical Research Center for Transplantology and Artificial Organs and the Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine. Organ and tissue transplantation is also carried out at the Military Medical Academy.
Limb transplantation operations are considered the most complex, as a specialist must connect nerves and blood vessels to restore blood flow and functionality of the transplant. Alongside this, developments are underway in the field of transplanting 3D-printed organs.
