The Russian army has more than 600 T-90M "Proryv" tanks in service. These calculations were published by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in the new edition of the Military Balance handbook.
According to arms analysts, Russia has a total of about 3,460 tanks of various models. In addition to the "Proryvs", these include about 470 T-72B3/B3M and 350 T-80BVM. Another 2.1 thousand vehicles are mothballed in warehouses.
For comparison, China has the most tanks counted by IISS — about 4.7 thousand vehicles. India and North Korea follow with 3.7 and 3.5 thousand tanks, respectively. The United States is next with 2.6 thousand tanks.
Military journalist Kirill Fyodorov noted that Uralvagonzavod's capacities allow it to produce up to 230 T-90M units per year. The actual production volume is classified.
The head of the concern's IT department, Maryan Gonchar, stated that artificial intelligence is already involved in tank production to optimize workflows and improve product quality.
