Drivers will not be fined for the slightest speeding. The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs opposed the idea of sharply lowering the non-fineable threshold and stated that it does not support such changes. The details were revealed by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk.
Earlier, the media and the Internet discussed the possibility of lowering the speeding threshold recorded by cameras from 20 km/h to 2–3 km/h. However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs consistently opposes this initiative and does not support its implementation.
Moreover, the agency believes that on federal highways, it is necessary not to tighten, but to review the speed limit with the possibility of increasing it.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs also draws attention to the need to update legislation in the field of road traffic organization.
In particular, it is proposed to conduct an audit of federal highways and the street and road network of cities to assess how justified the current speed limits are.
The agency considers it important to analyze where photo and video recording cameras are really needed, and where their installation may be excessive.
