Speeding fines may start coming in for exceeding the limit by as little as 2 km/h

The federal government may decide to lower the threshold

The Traffic Management Center proposed lowering the non-punishable speed limit threshold to 2–3 km/h, citing the accuracy of modern cameras. This was stated by the head of the Traffic Management Center, Mikhail Kizlyk.

According to Kizlyk, modern photo and video recording systems already allow for such parameters, with an error margin of about 1 km/h. He noted that the issue is being discussed at the expert level and may require a decision from the federal government, as it concerns uniform rules for the entire country.

The Traffic Management Center also believes that lowering the threshold could affect road safety and reduce the number of accidents with severe consequences.

Kizlyk separately reported that about 3,700 cameras have been installed in Moscow, and their number is not planned to be increased. Some systems may be relocated, and artificial intelligence algorithms are gradually being introduced into the recording system. According to him, all cameras on the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) are already operating with AI.
