The new heavy military transport aircraft Il-100 "Slon" may receive PD-26 engines. This was reported by Frequent Flyers.
The author of the article, Ilya Shatilin, reminded that the PD-26 is a reduced version of the PD-35 based on the same gas generator. The thrust of the power plant will be reduced.
It is initially being developed for a new military transport aircraft with the provisional name Il-100, but its use on civilian aircraft would significantly reduce the cost of a single engine. It's like with any mass-produced item: the more, the cheaper.
Aviation expert Oleg Panteleev, in an interview with "Pervy Tekhnichesky", noted that the power of prospective engines for the "Slon" could be reduced to 24 tons. However, this refers specifically to a four-engine version of such a liner.
However, the Il-100 version with four engines with an estimated thrust of 24 tons each will not be able to carry 180 tons of cargo over a range of 7000 km. According to calculations, this is a completely different aircraft type, like the An-124, only with a slightly greater range compared to the "Ruslan".
