A Pink Diamond for 56 Million Rubles: ALROSA Unveils an Exclusive Gemstone in St. Petersburg

Diamond mining group ALROSA has put on display in St. Petersburg a collection of 190 gemstones with a total estimated value of 2.5 billion rubles, the company press service reported. The centerpiece of the showcase was a 1.07-carat cushion-cut diamond of fancy vivid pink color, Vivid Pink.

The price of this tiny stone is 56 million rubles — the Vivid Pink color is exceptionally rare in nature and is considered the highest expression of the pink spectrum. Paired with it, a 5-carat cushion-cut Vivid Yellow diamond of intense yellow color, valued at more than 20 million rubles, is being shown for the first time. The Alrosa Diamond Exclusive exhibition also included round six-carat diamonds of the highest clarity characteristics and pairs of stones weighing more than five carats with similar parameters.

Bankers themselves are recording growing interest in such a "hard asset." According to ALROSA, in the past year alone, private banking and premium banking clients of Russian credit institutions increased the volume of purchases of investment-grade diamonds under the Alrosa Diamond Exclusive program by 40%. The showcases are positioned not as a jewelry exhibition, but as a tool for shifting capital into a compact physical asset not directly tied to currency fluctuations.
