56-carat diamond found in northern Russia

At the Vladimir Grib deposit in the Mezen district of the Arkhangelsk region, specialists extracted a gem-quality crystal weighing 56 carats. This is the second largest diamond mined in the region since the beginning of 2026. The dimensions of the find were 23.7×22.7×16.4 mm — parameters that confirm the exceptional preservation and purity of the mineral.

The extracted specimen became the 53rd unique crystal weighing over 50 carats since the start of industrial development of the deposit. The previous record holder of the year — a 228.62 carat diamond — was extracted at the same mining and processing plant on February 13, 2026.

The annual production volume at the V. Grib deposit reaches 4 million carats. In February 2026, the company celebrated a symbolic milestone — the extraction of the 50 millionth carat since the start of operation.

The Arkhangelsk region remains the only region in Europe with industrial diamond reserves. There are two deposits in the region: the M. Lomonosov deposit in the Primorsky district (operator — «SeverAlmaz») and the V. Grib deposit in the Mezen district, where «AGD Diamonds» operates. Geological conditions and proven technologies have made Pomorye a strategically important diamond mining center for the whole of Europe.
