The Russian military has begun to actively use the new air-launched missile X-69. It is practically invisible to air defense systems, said military expert Yuri Knutov.
According to him, the missile was also developed for the Su-57. Composite materials, from which the hull is made, reduce the radar signature.
It has a trapezoidal shape, like Storm Shadow and Scalp. On the one hand, this shape provides lift, on the other hand, the reflection of radar beams occurs in different directions.
Knutov explained that against the background of older missiles, the X-69 has high accuracy of destruction and is practically invisible even to the NASAMS and IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile systems.
The maximum flight range of the X-69 is up to 290 km, depending on the configuration, the mass of the warhead is 300–310 kg. Cruising speed — 700–1,000 km/h, flight altitude above the ground — from 20 m.
General Director of the Raduga State Design Bureau Sergei Bogatikov explained that the X-69 is the first and so far the only long-range cruise missile in the world placed inside the armament compartments of front-line aircraft.
