Underwater Internet for a Billion Rubles: "Inkab" Starts Production of Components for Cables on the Seabed

A line for the production of optical cores for communication in the Far East and the Arctic has been launched in the Perm Region

The Inkab Group, with the support of the Federal Industrial Development Fund (IDF), has launched a new production line in the Perm Region for the production of optical core for underwater fiber optic cables (FOC), "Pervy Technichesky" was told in the press service of the IDF. Such cables are designed for the construction of main underwater communication lines in the Far East and the Arctic zone, including along the Northern Sea Route.

Total investments in the project will amount to 1 billion rubles. The IDF provided concessional loans in the amount of 315 million rubles for the purchase of equipment for the Perm site. Another 454 million rubles will be allocated for equipping the enterprise in Primorye, where finished underwater cable will be made from the cores.

The optical core produced in the Perm Region will be used for the production of underwater cables up to 50 km long. The company's engineers have developed a new core sealing system - it minimizes the consequences of emergency situations (for example, cable breakage by ship anchors) and reduces the length of the cable line requiring replacement during repairs by several times.

A new plant for the production of finished cable will be launched in the second quarter of 2026 in the Khasansky district of Primorsky Krai - in close proximity to the sea pier, which will allow shipping products directly to cable-laying vessels. After reaching the design capacity of both sites, the cable output will be about 2.4 thousand km per year.
