A vertical takeoff and landing aircraft design with a new rotor and drive scheme has been patented in Russia. The development was registered on March 31, 2026, the author is Ivan Khamin, an engineer from Khakassia.
The design includes a fuselage with a cabin, front and rear supporting arms with built-in propellers in diffusers, as well as arched wings and landing gear.
The most interesting detail is the supporting propellers with blades of a hemispherical shape, divided by diameter. The developer believes that this geometry should increase the efficiency of creating lift and reduce the size of the system.
A propeller tilt mechanism with hydraulic drive and manual control is used to control thrust and flight direction. The angle of rotation of the blades is automatically adjusted by the centrifugal forces of the weights, which allows adapting the operating mode to the engine speed.
The apparatus uses a gas turbine engine with coupled turbines and built-in compressors, as well as an electric machine that can operate as an engine and a generator. Khamin calculated that the design increases reliability and performance.
Among the stated advantages are the possibility of vertical takeoff, hovering, movement along obstacles, and even landing on water.
