In 2026, Yandex Will Release 200 Self-Driving Cars with Test Pilots on the Roads

Yandex intends to begin commercializing robotic cars from 2028 — both in the taxi sector and in the private sector. This was announced by Tigran Khudaverdyan, advisor to the CEO, at the International Transport and Logistics Forum.

According to him, 2028 will be the starting point for robotaxis. At the same time, the private sector, according to forecasts, will also begin to acquire self-driving cars for personal use.

Now, buying a car and having a personal driver is more of a luxury. And in the new self-driving future, people will buy cars, and they will have a personal driver in the form of artificial intelligence.

In 2026, Yandex plans to release 200 fully robotic cars on the roads. According to current legislation, test pilots will still be in them. However, the company hopes that for 10–20 cars this year, the pilot will be able to be moved to the passenger seat (on the right, with a red button) so that the car is controlled exclusively by AI.

Khudaverdyan emphasized that the technology being developed should ensure full control of the car in a real environment with other road users, and not in artificial locations.
