New Russian-made import-substituted turbines turn out to be more expensive than foreign ones

Rais of Tatarstan Minnikhanov voiced problems for the introduction of domestic power equipment

The development of domestic technologies and equipment has become one of the key areas of Russia's Energy Strategy until 2050. However, there are several obstacles to bringing their share to 90%, explained the head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov.

He pointed to the lack of sufficient capacity, which increases the time it takes to manufacture the necessary parts. The second and third problems stem from this — the availability of the necessary equipment and its actual cost.

So far, prices for Russian models remain higher than for foreign counterparts, Minnikhanov specified.

We are ready to discuss the implementation of pilot projects in Tatarstan, including supporting the expansion of production — as part of the financing of long-term developments.

Minnikhanov added that in 2025, KER-Holding received a grant of 600 million rubles for the production of gas turbine components. This year, the priority of companies is to receive subsidies for R&D for the development of gas turbine models.

Another important problem was the high failure rate of domestic turbines. The head of the System Operator company, Fedor Opadchiy, explained that failures occur precisely after major updates. Against this background, large power plants asked the Cabinet to postpone the introduction of fines for downtime.
