The frigate of the Northern Fleet "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov" conducted a planned anti-submarine exercise in the Barents Sea. One of the fleet's submarines acted as a mock enemy.
The task of the frigate's crew was to detect and track the submarine using standard sonar equipment. The target coordinates were transmitted in real time to the Ka-27M deck helicopter. The pilots used a dipping sonar station to refine the submarine's movement parameters and its precise positioning.
At certain stages of the exercise, the combat crews of the mine-torpedo unit practiced algorithms for the conditional forcing of a submarine to surface and checked their readiness to use the entire complex of anti-submarine weapons. No real launches were carried out — all actions were simulated in accordance with the combat training methodology.
The exercise was carried out as usual, without any comments on the operation of the equipment and the interaction of the crews. The data obtained will be used to analyze and further develop tactics for searching for underwater targets in the conditions of the Northern Fleet.
"Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov" is a Russian multipurpose frigate of the 1st rank of Project 22350 with guided missile weapons of the far sea and ocean zone of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy.
