Apple has changed the rules for changing the region in accounts for users from Russia. Now, you no longer need to cancel subscriptions in advance or wait for them to end to do this — you can change the region immediately.
When changing the country (for example, to Germany or Turkey), active subscriptions temporarily disappear from the account, but after returning the region, they are restored. iCloud behaves similarly: settings are reset, but access is returned after switching back.
At the same time, the key limitation remained — you still cannot change the region if there is money on the Apple ID balance.
Some users contact English-speaking Apple support to circumvent the previous restrictions. In some cases, it is possible to change the region even with active subscriptions — for example, to iCloud — while the account currency changes to dollars. However, such scenarios do not always work.
Separately, the restriction for Apple Music users remains: you will not be able to change the region with an active subscription. This is probably due to licenses for music content.
Previously, the procedure was stricter: it was required to completely cancel all subscriptions and specify a new payment method. Now these conditions have been softened.
The changes are taking place against the background of new restrictions: from April 1, 2026, Russian operators disabled the ability to replenish Apple ID from a mobile phone balance. As a result, users are increasingly changing the region to other countries — for example, Turkey or the United States — to pay for services through gift cards.
