Engine for Giants: Mi-26 to Receive Russian PD-8V Instead of D-136

The power unit will see the light in 2031

The Samara-based company "ODK-Kuznetsov" is developing a new PD-8V engine, which will become the main unit for heavy Mi-26 helicopters. This was announced by the General Director of the plant, Oleg Vydumlev.

According to him, the priorities of the plant also include the creation of promising new generation gas turbine engines and uninterrupted production of space products.

When creating the PD-8V, ODK uses a gas generator from the PD-8 aircraft engine, developed for regional passenger Superjet 100 aircraft.

The Governor of the Samara region, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, stated that work on the new power unit will be completed by 2031. The engine will replace the D-136 from the company "Motor Sich". The technical characteristics of the PD-8V are not yet known.
