Cargo turnover on the railway in the Zabaykalsky Territory will grow by more than 30% by 2030 and will reach about 25 million tons per year. This was reported by the press service of the Zabaykalsky Railway (ZabZhD) following a meeting between the governor of the region, Alexander Osipov, and the head of the highway, Vladimir Antonets. We are talking about forecast indicators based on applications from cargo owners, formed for the period until the end of the decade. The main increase is expected due to the expansion of coal and ore mining in the region. The geography of growth includes existing and new enterprises, as well as loading stations through which raw materials will be sent to domestic and export markets.
Increase in Loading Due to Coal and Ore in Zabaykalye
The key factor in increasing cargo turnover will be the development of the mining industry in the region. Source: ZabZhD press service.
The main contribution to growth will be provided by the Kharanor coal mine, the Zashulanskoye and Tataurovskoye deposits. An increase in ore loading volumes is also expected at the Mogzon and Dosatuy stations. An additional effect will be the commissioning of the Kultuminsky mining and processing plant at its design capacity.
We are talking about a systemic increase in the extraction and shipment of raw materials, which directly creates demand for railway transportation.
Balance of Applications and Carrying Capacity of the Trans-Siberian Railway
A separate block of negotiations concerned the coordination of transportation volumes between cargo owners and the railway. Source: press service.
The parties discussed cases when the declared volumes are reserved but not actually presented for transportation. This leads to inefficient use of the highway's carrying capacity.
The Zabaykalsky Railway is making every effort to ensure transport accessibility for representatives of all sectors of the region. But it must be remembered that we also provide transit for the entire cargo flow along the Trans-Siberian Railway from the western part of Russia to the Far East and China. Therefore, the available carrying capacity must be used as efficiently and meaningfully as possible
ZabZhD works not only with regional cargo but also serves transit along the Trans-Siberian Railway, including export destinations.
The growth to 25 million tons per year is comparable to an increase in the load on the infrastructure, which is already involved in international transportation. At the same time, the development of mining projects in Zabaykalye is synchronized with the capabilities of the railway to avoid a shortage of throughput capacity.
For the region, this means strengthening the role of raw material exports and loading infrastructure. For the railway, it means the need for accurate transportation planning and improving the efficiency of using existing capacities.
