The Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (JSC "IMZ", part of the Kalashnikov Concern) has produced more than 2.1 million MR-512 air rifles of various modifications in 30 years. This was reported by the press service of the concern.
On March 14, 1996, the General Director of IMZ, Vasily Chuguevsky, signed an order to start production of the MR-512. A year later, the plant switched to large-scale production of long-barreled weapons.
The novelty of the model was as follows: its receiver was made from a solid rod with subsequent rolling, which significantly improved the internal roughness of the working part.
Over 30 years, almost 80 versions of the rifle have appeared. They differed in design and finish, materials, stock design, and sighting devices.
In the last 5 years alone, IMZ gunsmiths have developed 7 new modifications of the MR-512. These are rifles with different muzzle energy — up to 7.5 J. The MR-512 remains in demand due to its reliable design and excellent shooting accuracy.
MR-512 characteristics:
- Caliber — 4.5 mm
- Initial bullet speed — up to 170 m/s
- Barrel length — 450 mm
- Overall length — 1090 mm
- Weight — up to 2.8 kg
- Optics mounting — "dovetail" rail
