The Chukavin semi-automatic sniper rifle (SVCh), developed to replace the outdated Dragunov sniper rifle (SVD), has been adopted by Russia's internal affairs bodies. This was reported by the press service of Kalashnikov Concern.
The rifle is designed to engage enemy personnel and unarmored vehicles at distances of up to 1,000 m. Its design makes it possible to take into account the individual characteristics of shooters.
The SVCh features an ergonomic control grip made of impact-resistant polymer, adjustable trigger pull, and allows the use of modern sights and sighting systems.
Main characteristics of the SVCh:
- Weight without magazine — 4.8 kg
- Caliber — 7.62 mm
- Length with stock unfolded and flash suppressor — 1170 mm
- Barrel length — 620 mm
The SVCh was designed on the basis of the Kalashnikov sniper rifle (SVK). Development had been underway since 2016, and in 2021 the high-precision small arm underwent state trials.
Its serial production began in 2023. The SVCh is in extremely high demand among Russian servicemen. Starting from 2024, the concern has been increasing the production volume of rifles of this type.
