New "Chimera" vehicle trials for NBC protection troops are underway in Belarus

The main task of the complex is rapid reconnaissance of areas with potential contamination

Technical tests of the special vehicle "Chimera" have started at the training grounds of the 8th Brigade of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection. The development was presented by JSC "Agat – Electromechanical Plant". Crews are already evaluating the performance of intelligent equipment and the driving characteristics of the new product in conditions close to real ones.

The main purpose of the complex is to conduct operational surveys of territories where infection or contamination may be present. Thanks to the built-in software package and modern sensors, the system automatically:

  • determines the location and direction to sources of radiation;
  • records the presence of toxic chemical compounds
  • recognizes potentially dangerous biological agents.

All this happens without delay: the data is processed and immediately transmitted to the operator and to headquarters for decision-making.

The "Chimera" was created on the basis of the Belarusian armored vehicle "Cayman". Engineers of the State Military Industrial Committee retained its high cross-country ability and protective characteristics, adapting the platform to the tasks of NBC reconnaissance. The vehicle retains mobility on difficult terrain, and the reinforced layout increases survivability in the area of task performance.

At the current stage, the crews are practicing interaction with the new equipment: they are checking the accuracy of the sensors, the speed of deployment, the stability of communication and the ergonomics of the operator's workplace. Preliminary results confirm that the complex is ready for further testing and potential adoption.
