The "Tekhnodinamika" holding has reorganized the management of the "Simonov Design Bureau", which is engaged in the creation of heavy unmanned aerial vehicles: the enterprise was removed from the subordination of the Ural Civil Aviation Plant (UZGA), making it an independent unit. Alexey Polyakov, who previously worked at the "Kronshtadt" company and participated in the development of the serial "Orion" drone, has been appointed General Director, according to the Telegram channel "Bespilot".
The new head faces a difficult task: to complete the work on the "Altius" UAV project (also known as "Altair"), which has been under development since 2011.
Last year, the former general director and chief designer of "Simonov Design Bureau", Alexander Gomzin, was sentenced to eight years for embezzling almost a billion rubles allocated for the creation of a heavy unmanned aerial vehicle. However, he was released from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
A week after the verdict, an experienced "Altius" prototype crashed in Kazan. UZGA stated that the take-off went smoothly, but during the flight "satellite navigation was disrupted by unidentified external electronic warfare means." The strike drone turned out to be not ready to work in real conditions.
Polyakov, who before his appointment was the deputy chief designer for UAV development at UZGA, is now responsible for the fate of the problematic project.
