The "Microelectronics" educational and scientific center will appear in Yekaterinburg at the new building of the Institute of Radio Electronics and Information Technologies of UrFU in Novokoltsovsky. The plans were discussed by the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, Denis Pasler, and the new Rector of the University, Ilya Obabkov, who was appointed to the post on February 20, reports the information policy department of the region.
UPKB "Detal" will be the industrial partner of the center: the bureau will participate in the development of the scientific program, the formation of technical tasks, the launch of technological processes and the support of R&D, as well as the training of students. The timing of the creation of the center and the amount of investment are not disclosed.
The project is unfolding against the background of problems with a neighboring production facility. It was planned to build a microelectronics factory "Karat" near the UrFU campus in Novokoltsovsky — commissioning was originally scheduled for the end of 2025, then the deadlines were shifted by a year. Last week, the tender for the selection of a contractor for construction was disrupted. Thus, the educational and scientific center may appear earlier than the production base, for the needs of which it is partly created.
