During the repair of the icebreaker "Avraamiy Zavenyagin" Project 1191 at the Arkhangelsk shipbuilding enterprise, it turned out that the existing equipment of the shipyard is not designed to work with a large propeller-rudder complex. The company had to quickly modernize the technical base to continue the work.
The main difficulty arose due to the dimensions of the equipment. Propellers with a diameter of about 2 m and a weight of 2.5 tons required high precision balancing. The existing capacities of the shipyard were not initially designed for such parameters.
Previously, the shipyard had not worked with propellers of this diameter, so modernization became a necessary condition for the continuation of the project.
In order not to stop the repair, the company modernized the equipment and manufactured a new balancer. This actually expanded the technical capabilities of the base for working with ships of a similar class.
